Hindsight is a series of handprinted numerals that explore symbols as conceptual sign and aesthetic form, their graphic appearance influences both meaning and perception. The figures reference a measure of perfect vision as 20/20, a sequence of years as visual pattern, and bring to mind historic and traumatic events like the spread of a virus or the murder of George Floyd. Just as 1945, the 1960s, and 9/11 recall a time of significant change, 2020 and its aftermath will long evoke a impactful period. Similarly, a drawn mark in encaustic on paper suggests the lasting power that human processes and natural materials hold.
