Art History Selects: PC Art History Faculty Highlight Women & Non-binary Artists in the Art Collection

February 2, 2022
4:30 pm–6:00 pm

Hunt-Cavanagh Gallery at Hunt-Cavanagh Hall

Program Description:

In this multi-host tour of the exhibition Art History Selects, Providence College’s own art historians identify how contemporary artworks that are from the College’s collection and made by women and non-binary artists reference global visual culture, from the ancient world to present day. The tour coincides with a reception celebrating the exhibition and the contributions of art history faculty. Refreshments will be served.

Note: While this program is open to all, it is specially designed with Providence College faculty in mind.

Presented in conjunction with
“Then, Now, Next: 50 Years of Women at PC”

As part of the College’s celebration of 50 Years of Women, PCG seeks to inspire on and off-campus communities with dynamic exchanges about art and ideas, especially as they relate to women and gender in art. In doing so, PCG advocates for better representation of under-represented identities in the liberal arts by collecting artworks by diverse artists with wide-ranging perspectives. In its longterm efforts to address gender imbalances in the presentation of art and ideas, PCG has employed its burgeoning contemporary art collection to highlight the College’s community and their perspectives on women’s and gender issues, especially as they relate to visual arts and culture’s intersection with the liberal arts.
