About the Exhibition

Providence College Galleries is pleased to present Contour: Selections from the Collection in Hunt-Cavanagh Gallery. Linguistically, the word ‘contour’ serves multiple functions–as a noun, adjective, and verb. Similarly, the prints, photographs, drawings, paintings, and sculptures selected for the exhibition offer distinct and contrasting formal and conceptual aesthetic processes to activate the notion of “form” in physical, geographical, and social dimensions.

Drawing primarily from the permanent collections, the exhibition includes work by German artist Käthe Kollwitz (1867-1945), American artist Mark Tobey (1890-1976), along with contemporary living artists Elizabeth Atterbury, Vivian Greven, Susan Giles, Will Hutnick, Graham MacDougal, Miller & Shellabarger, Joiri Minaya, and Robert Wilson, among others.

Organized by PCG Director and Chief Curator Carol Stakenas.
