Opening Reception & Mini-Symposium I. Classic Beauty: 21st-Century Artists on Ancient [Greek] Form

Reilly Gallery, Smith Center for the Arts

Program Description

PCG warmly invites you to celebrate as we open our fall exhibition, Classic Beauty: 21st-Century Artists on Ancient [Greek] Form.

Join us at 6pm for the first of three mini-symposia we will host over the course of the show:
Vivian Greven, Kirstin Lamb and David Ross Harper
in dialogue with Providence College scholars.
Wednesday, Sept. 12, 6 – 7:30pm
Smith Center for the Arts

This exhibition brings together the work of 11 visual artists and serves as an exploration into how and why contemporary artists replicate or carry forward methods and aesthetics of Ancient Greece. Featuring projects consisting of drawing, painting, sculpture and architectural objects, Classic Beauty both homages and challenges the truthfulness of the legacy of Classical Art, especially as it functions in present-day Western culture.

Works will be presented across both the Reilly Gallery and Hunt-Cavanagh Gallery, with the Reilly Gallery hosting the reception and refreshments.
