Graduating seniors of the Art & Art History Department at Providence College work for a full year to conceptualize and complete capstone projects to fulfill the requirements of their major.
Art History majors conduct extensive research on selected topics, analyzing diverse materials and theoretical texts in addition to reviewing current and historical literature. They then present their research in formal poster presentations and thesis papers, which are substantial pieces of critical writing that develop original arguments about important issues in art and art history.
Studio Art majors, working in studios dedicated to research and artistic exploration, create cohesive bodies of artwork. They then present that work in solo installations, highlighting the dynamic ways they experiment with materials and content to craft new visual and spatial experiences.
